WHAT ARE YOU PAYING FOR WHEN YOU HIRE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER?

You’re not only paying for the time you spend together – you’re paying for their expertise, their creative eye, their years of experience, and the heart that they put into your session.

Other photography expenses include:

  • camera, lighting, and computer equipment
  • Image editing software
  • hundreds of hours of education and training
  • knowledge & professionalism
  • an assistant to help carry and set-up equipment
  • data storage and back-ups
  • studio space and/or location fees
  • transportation costs
  • office rent and expenses
  • promotion and website costs
  • telephone and internet services
  • income and sales tax, business insurance
  • a living wage so the photographer can pay for housing, food, medical, and all other living expenses

Investing in a professional photographer is an investment that will pay off for years to come.

WHAT ARE YOUR PRICES?

Please see my pricing page, or email me for a custom quote.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK?

I take on a limited number of sessions every month so that I can provide the highest level of service. During show season, be sure to book at least 4 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment. That being said, I will always do my best to accommodate last minute requests.

WHEN IS PAYMENT DUE?

Your session fee is due in full on the day that you make the booking.

The session fee acts as a retainer to hold your session date and time. The fee is non-refundable, but transferable if the weather is uncooperative.

All artwork can be purchased separately once your gallery has been delivered – usually within two weeks of your session.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF DAY FOR YOUR SESSION?

I can confidently produce quality images in any kind of light – my portfolio contains images shot under a variety of different light conditions. I generally advise my clients to go with a sunrise or sunset shoot, which is usually about 45 minutes prior to and after the actual sunrise or sunset.

WHAT IF THE WEATHER ISN’T IDEAL?

No problem — weather can be unpredictable. I always keep an eye on the forecast, so if there is a significant chance of rain/wind/lightning we can reschedule.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY HORSE?

Have your horse looking show-ring ready—

  • Clean eyes, nose and mouth
  • Hooves clean and shiny
  • Mane pulled (if necessary), or braided
  • Tail brushed and clean; braided or loose
  • Use Showsheen (with caution!) if you plan on riding bareback
  • Apply fly spray to prevent discomfort and irritation
  • If you bathe your horse, do so with enough time for them to be fully dry for their session

Make sure your tack is spotless, and your bit is polished. Have a nice leather halter and lead, in addition to a bridle on hand. You can decide if you’d like your horse in full tack, or simply with a bridle/halter. If you’re unsure, have your saddle and any other accessories ready to go.

Additionally, make sure to ride or lunge your horse prior to the session, if they tend to have a lot of energy. Hand walking them around the shooting location(s) will get them used to unfamiliar areas, if they tend to be spooky.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? SHOULD I GET PROFESSIONAL HAIR AND MAKEUP DONE?

Wear what you’re comfortable in and what makes you feel great! You can bring riding clothes or “street” clothes; fun accessories (scarves, earrings, a statement necklace) can enhance the overall look. Try to choose colors that compliment your horse, or that match their polos, saddle pad, etc. Make sure your clothing is pressed, your fingernails are clean, and remove band-aids. Remember, details are important and the camera sees everything! If you would like to get your hair/makeup done professionally, it can make the day feel extra special.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY BARN FOR A BLACK BACKGROUND SESSION?

Make sure to sweep and clean the concrete aisle, block out any light from behind your horse (e.g. shutting the barn door behind the horse, turning off any overhead lights, closing all windows, etc.), and removing any objects that might be in the way are crucial for a successful session.

WHEN WILL I SEE THE PHOTOS AFTER MY SESSION?

I will usually have them ready about 2 weeks after your session. You will be emailed a link to a private gallery of your best images. From there, you can go through your photos and decide which are your favorites. You can purchase from me directly or through your personal gallery. I work with a professional printer, should you wish to purchase high quality art prints.

CAN YOU PHOTOSHOP MY IMAGES?

Yes – Photoshop retouching starts at $75/hour
